GENRE: YA Sci-fi Fantasy Romance
EXCERPT
Chapter 1
Teleportation
My stomach roiled. I hadn’t been able to sleep well for weeks since I’d seen that glimpse of the future. But Tara told me she hadn’t gotten any more from it. She said that meant we had time. It didn’t provide much comfort. I needed to put that away for later; today I had an important meeting. Kadeem had been locked up for five months, and I finally convinced my father to speak with him. We were going to meet with him in his study. Being honest about Kadeem would be the only way to earn his trust. I knocked on the door to my father’s study.
“Come in,” he bellowed.
I opened the door and strolled inside. “They should be bringing him in shortly,” my father said.
I took a seat in one of the chairs in front of his desk. John, my father’s second in command, was standing to the side of his desk. He was so still you could mistake him for a statue. My mouth was very dry as I tried to swallow. I just wanted to get this meeting over with. A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door.
“Yes,” my father said.
Sharaf and Tazman came through the door, each holding Kadeem by his arm, each arm in handcuffs.
“Sit him in the chair,” my father commanded.
I gave Kadeem a smile, which he returned. Sonar, how I missed him! Then he fidgeted in the chair. Kadeem was nervous too—it surprised me. He rarely was.
“So what is it you wanted to discuss with me, Syira?” my father asked.
I cleared my throat. “Kadeem has been very cooperative for the last several months. I wanted to discuss giving him some form of freedom.”
My father stared at me impassively, but I continued, “Kadeem and I wanted to discuss a secret.”
“And what secret might that be?”
“Kadeem could have escaped at any time. He has not, because he wanted to prove his loyalty to you. He has a great power.” John, Sharaf, and Tazman seemed intrigued now by what I was saying. “He can teleport whenever he pleases.”
“Teleport?” my father asked, raising his brow.
“Kadeem,” I said, glancing over at him.
Kadeem inclined his head to me and vanished.

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**
And in the name of honesty I must confess I am not a huge fan of YA Fantasy. However, the Sci-Fi and Romance aspects of the book’s description were the determining factors for my picking it. In hindsight that might have been my biggest mistake and that is why I urge potential readers who love YA Fantasy to overlook my rating of this story. Judging from other reviews written by people who are clearly fans of the genre and loved all books in the series I would say that my opinion is the dissonant one. Which leads me to another factor that hinder my enjoyment of Sonar the Cyclone. I have not read the first book nor the 1.5 installment of the series. I guess that was why I could never totally connect with the characters or the plot. Finally, the editing issues threw me off and I couldn’t concentrate enough to ignore them. I am not a grammar freak and have been able to ignore typos and proofreading issues in books before but I think the combination of such issues and my lack of connection with the book resulted in my distraction.
If you ARE a YA Fantasy fan please just ignore my review and go for the other fans’ ones. You would probably agree with them.
