5 STARS – Science-Fiction at its best

I have to say first of all that I’m a huge fan of science-fiction and fantasy – both movies and books – so I’m accustomed to navigating new worlds. However, John Fioravanti made it quite effortless for any reader to understand the novel concepts upon which Genesis is based.

In my opinion, the History teacher in the author helped him envision a future society of human beings living in another planet but keeping cultural traits from their ancestors’ original roots. I live in Brazil, a country where the melting pot of many contrasting cultures is my everyday reality. I often witness examples of century-old traditions surviving through young generations who have little idea where those rituals and ideas come from, originally.

As for the plot, the reader will find intrigue, romance, politics, and so much more than the average science-fiction read. Furthermore, the characters are so well-developed and believable you soon pick your favorite ones and start rooting for them. At least, that’s what I did.

As a reader, I’m a fan of the omniscient point of view, which I have the feeling is becoming a rare style of narrating, but John Fioravanti uses it brilliantly. He’s in great company since authors like Jane Austen, Leo Tolstoy, and Charles Dickens were masters of such style.
