In a recent interview, I was asked about the inspiration behind the names in Tristan Knight’s story.

Something interesting happened when I named the characters in this book. Stories about King Arthur and his knights are one of my passions. To be honest, I like retellings from the female perpective, such as Mists of Avalon, but that’s kind of beside the point here. Sorry lol. When I began plotting the first book, I called it Tristan because I meant it to be a subtle nod to one of those Arthurian fables – Tristan and Isolde, which made naming the couple quite easy. When I got to the antagonist, things got harder. I wanted to name Tristan and Izzie’s son Arthur for obvious reasons. To give it a little twist, I decided the antagonist would be XYZ King, so Izzie’s son would be Arthur King. Got it? Lol But I couldn’t make up my mind about the guy’s first name. I kept thinking Mark, but I hated the character’s guts. You see, I had written this adorable male lead in a different series called Mark. I didn’t want to repeat a name let along for a vile villain. In the outlining phase, I decided to leave that open to stop wasting time because I was driving Google insane with my endless searches for names and their meanings.
I confess that aside from the couple’s name and the star-crossed-lovers theme, I knew very little about the legend of Tristan and Isolde. When I got to the actual writing stage, I went back to my research and found out interesting things. Tristan was a knight of the Round Table, which I already knew, but also a musician. His uncle, King Mark of Cornwall, tasked him with the sensitive mission of going to Ireland to escort the king’s future bride – Isolde. That ended my search for the antagonist’s name. In older versions of his tale, Tristan was the son of Blanchefleur, which means ‘white flower’ in French. In my book, she became Lilly Knight. Bruna takes her name from my niece’s best friend. I got inspiration from people I know for the names of minor characters such as Karen and Nelson Razzini, Herve Durand, and Natasha Cooper.
